Bonnie Tartan is a small, family run-business based in Scotland. The company specialises in producing tartan hosiery, tartan hose tops, tartan cuff hose and specialist socks, using 100% pure new wool. The business was inspired by Bonnie Middleton’s daughter, whose Highland dancing at age three inspired Bonnie to fulfil a “need to continue a time old tradition…but only using a slightly more modern process.”
Bonnie Tartan applied for a CAPITB Grant to help cover the costs of training two trainees in specialised linking and operating knitting machinery. After six months, the training has produced two employees who have settled nicely into their key roles in the production department. Both have acquired considerable skills, with one trainee becoming responsible for the tying off of the hose and the other becoming a fully operational knitter operator. Bonnie said that “Without the support…I wouldn’t have been able to financially pass on the linking skills I have to other staff.”
The CAPITB Trust’s award was so highly valued that Bonnie Tartan is already considering CAPITB Trust’s help for the future: “I have another two possible candidates that have expressed an interest in linking skills so will definitely be applying in the near future” said Bonnie.
