Atelier Tammam / Michela Fulgoni
Lucy from Atelier Tammam contacted the CapitB trust to ask for help with training her seamstresses, Michela Fulgoni, in couture corsetry. A grant from CAPITB Trust means they are able to pass on these integral skills and support the industry to ensure there are people available to create in this highly skilled way.
During the course, Michela learnt the full details of constructing a couture corset using traditional techniques and high quality industry standard materials.
Despite limitations at the start of working from home due to Covid 19 they were able to carry out the early training via zoom tutorials, and short meet ups to check fit and progress.
Lucy said: “It is incredibly hard to find seamstresses with this skill- Michela started with us as a competent machinist but she lacked the couture precision to create foundation garments. This training has given her a clear understanding of the process of corset construction. She picked up the skills incredibly quickly and created a very high standard corset as a result of the course. I am confident she will take this knowledge with her to use throughout her career and we will certainly be sure to utilise it at the Tammam Atelier for future projects – I have been able to give her work on corset samples for our upcoming collection.”
